Bar Billiards (or as it is also known, Snookerette or Skittle Billiards) was introduced to the UK in the 1930's by David Gill after he saw it in the bars of Belgium. Jelkes were the most prolific early manufacturers and made two models one with turned legs and a hexagonal or thrupenny bit leg mainly in Dark Walnut or Mahogany. Ron Sams manufactured the Sams Atlas up until about 1973 and we bought the last two models he made at his factory in Hoddesdon. From memory I paid about £1275, a great deal of money in those days.
The Jeffrey Bros were very busy in City Road with their table. Other manufacturers were Riley (who I suspect copied the Jeffrey table), Padmores, Burroughes and Watts etc were all on the band wagon as the game really took off .
Nowadays the tables are scarcer as time and wear take their toll but we are lucky to have been able to buy and restore a cross section of tables as the examples below represent. Supreme have also started manufacturing a table to meet the increasing domestic and commercial demand.
Typically you would expect to pay between £1000 and £2000 for a fully restored table. If you want an original clockwork timer expect to pay between £150 and £300 extra depending on condition.
